Activision has outlined how Modern Warfare 4’s DMZ will connect individual extraction runs to a persistent base and roster. The Forward Operating Base is the between-mission hub: players can manage Operators, store recovered equipment, accept Orders, craft gear, test weapons, and prepare another deployment. Some stations open through progression, including the 3D Printer at DMZ level 2, a rotating Vendor at level 5, and the Gunsmith at level 10. [1] [2]

The mode begins with two Active Duty Operator slots, with a third unlocked through DMZ levels. Successful extractions raise an Operator’s Dog Tag level and award Trait Points. Activision lists 66 Traits across Warfighter, Scout, and Survivalist trees, while each Operator can earn 18 Trait Points before becoming eligible to Prestige. An Operator lost during a run becomes missing in action and can be recovered with DMZ Cash, keeping Traits but losing carried gear. [1] [2]

Loot feeds the longer loop. Four automatically collected resource types—Synthetics, Electronics, Chemicals, and Metals—support fabrication, while rarer printer ingredients occupy backpack space and can be stored after extraction. The shared Stash initially holds 40 general items and 12 weapons. Players can enter Story Missions, Dynamic Operations, or Free Roam, and progress made by one Operator can help equip another through the common inventory. [1] [2]

Digital pre-orders or pre-purchases include Campaign early access beginning October 16 and access to DMZ beginning October 20, subject to availability and timing changes. The full game is scheduled for October 23 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. Those dates are upcoming; PHOX has not tested the mode. [1]
